The Refugio la Roca Via Ferrata starts in the Rocas de la Mojarra Climbing Park situated only 50 meters from the Refugio. It is a privileged route from a landscape and environmental point of view, since it runs through the entire rock cliff at 300 meters above the Chicamocha Canyon. The first two (2) kilometers of the walk follow a small pedestrian path attached to the rock, which then connects with a climb assisted by handrails, chains, and ropes that allow easy access to great heights by vertical surfaces for hikers not accustomed to climbing. We will find birds flying at our same height and we will pass by a sacred cave of the ancestors of the “Mesa de Xerira” the current Mesa de Los Santos, the Guanes indigenous people, where remains and objects of their daily life still remain; cave that is strategically located above a small water source. You can learn about its history and customs through an information board located in the area. Your vertical walk will conclude with a 30-meter descent.

The Chicamocha Park or Panachi Bucaramanga is located on the route Bucaramanga – San Gil, 54 km from the capital of the department of Santander (Bucaramanga) and 39 km from San Gil. It is built on the Chicamocha Canyon, taking advantage of its natural and historical richness. Its area is 264 hectares. The park has an urban complex made up of various sights and locations that seek to promote the values of the land, landscape and culture of Santander. These elements include: an administrative, cultural and tourism office, parking, cable car station, ring road, Santander town bandshell, theater, monuments to Santander’s culture, natural gazebo, paths and trails, viewpoints and rests.
The cable car is the best way to cross the canyon and get to the station at La Mesa de los Santos just 10km from the Refugio.
