Refugio la Roca is dedicated to conserving water, using renewable energy, and re-populating previously bare land with local, medicinal plants. All buildings were constructed using raw earth and adobe bricks, in the traditional Bahareque building style.
2 communal kitchens, 2 dining areas, a projector, a training wall, a gym, as well as a tienda in reception provide endless opportunities to meet people from all over the world.
“La Mojarra has great quality single pitch sandstone sport...What really makes a climbing destination for me is the combination of quality climbing and quality community. That can be the van life community and stunning splitter cracks in Indian Creek Utah, or the sport climbing in La Mojarra and staying at El Refugio La Roca. The hostel is beautiful, sitting on the edge of the canyon and only a short 5-10 minute walk to the climbing....It only took me one day to make lifelong friends at the hostel, and that is as important as the quality of the climbing. After climbing you can drink beer and eat amazing food with everyone else...Everyone is fired up after a good day and ready to chat about their projects or life philosophies. The only negative I have to report is leaving all your new friends when it's time to go home."

"Staying at Refugio La Roca was more than I imagined! I stayed in the cabin overlooking the canyon. The area has many activities to do like climbing, hiking, or going to a coffee tour. I highly recommend staying here for seeing the area - my only regret was not staying longer."
